The post-modern sensibility had turned comic books into the stunning form called the graphic novel. Reading correctly from back to front, Helen Adams Keller, by Sozo Yanagawa and Rie Yagi (Digital Manga Publishing, $9.95), is a bizarre combination. Bible lovers will be proud but if you’ve never picked up The Good Book, you will not be disappointed. I remember skimming through my mum's dirty novels as an adolescent. It’s evident from emerging literature that more and more teachers are starting to dabble with the graphic arts as part of an ever-expanding notion of literacy.

Really most of these are graphic novels as they are quite long. Called in Japan “the god of manga,” Tezuka's comic stories and later animated films brought the tropes and storytelling techniques of American and, to a lesser extent, European comics and animation to Japan. In the English language, one has a mere 26 letters with which to describe or destroy, page after page. Also check out the Inky Fingers podcast with the first part of an interview with Bryan. I shall grow old, and horrible, and dreadful. Highly recommended: a must have for any library collection. Students may understand high school novels better with a story map, graphic organizer worksheet. As a concept the idea of a comic book composed of rough sketches does not sound too appealing, but when you open the book that does not matter anymore!
